Maria's Pizza, Milwaukee
Maria's Pizza is soul food. Not in the traditional sense, of course—there are no collard-green or barbecue pizzas on the menu at this 52-year-old Milwaukee institution. Maria's brand of soul derives mostly from the love, hard work, and comfortable familiarity of the second- and third-generation family members who staff the place, providing hungry Milwaukeeans with rectangular trays of oblong pizzas.Maria's Pizza
Grandma Slice sent me this clipping from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel a couple weeks ago. I figured I better scan it and get it up on the site before she thinks I'm ignoring her. I was born in Milwaukee and have family there, and most times when we'd visit, Pa Slice would insist on a trip to Maria's Pizza. Maria's is wacky and it's definitely not New Yorkstyle pizza. I'll let the newspaper clipping speak for me. Click on it to enlarge and read....Slice is part of the Foodblog Ad Network.
