Where Is the Midtown Pizza Truck?

A reader emails us: My office is on 51st and Lex, and lately my coworkers and I have been missing the Pizza Truck. Has he changed locations or something? If you have any updates, please respond when you can (I think my boss has a craving for a Sicilian). Thank you so much! :-) I just tried calling both the numbers listed on the truck (pictured above). The first one is disconnected. The second, well, I'm not sure if I can make it out from the photo, but it seems to be a dead end, too. Anyone know what... More

Ray's: The Question Remains Unanswered

In yesterday's New York Times F.Y.I. column, the question was raised: Where was the first Ray's Pizza, and what's the story behind it? A. Why don’t you ask something simple, like what happened to Judge Crater? Some New York culinary questions (just who invented the black-and-white cookie is another) are destined to remain shrouded in mystery. The evolution of Ray’s Pizza resists an easy explanation.... The Ray’s question is also bristling with lawyers. Rosolino Mangano, of Famous Original Ray’s Pizza on Columbus Avenue near 83rd Street, went to court in the early 1990’s, registered that name and branched out with... More

PIZZA TRUCK (MIDTOWN)

KEEP ON TRUCKIN' New York's Finest Pizza operates out of a custom-made pizza truck (top and above left) on the northeast corner of 51st Street and Park Avenue. We observed the truck, across from Saint Bartholomew's, around 1:30 p.m. yesterday; the truck was very popular, with no shortage of customers (above right). By 1:20 p.m. yesterday, I had made a sizable dent in my inbox so I decided to take lunch a little farther afield than usual. Bored with the mediocre and overpriced options near the office, I walked about 10 blocks up and a couple east to New... More

Vittles Vamp on Naples 45

Vittles Vamp tells of a recent visit to Naples 45 and the price discrepancy between sit-down and carry-out ordering. The take-away: Order at the carry-out window.Naples 45: Closer to the Mafia Than You Might ThinkWe've eaten at Naples 45 and thought it was quite good. Excellent, really. But we agree with VV on the two-tiered pricing strategy. Hmmph. But that's Midtown: Just put it on the corporate account!Naples 45: In the MetLife Building, 200 Park Ave., New York NY 10166Phone: 212-972-7001Payment: Cash and cards accepted... More

Harvard Club Installs Pizza Oven

A Harvard education has many perks. Not only is a degree from the prestigious school a ticket to power, money, and the good life, but if you live in New York City, you get a world-class club with "a library, a reading room, a gallery of art, and such other appurtenances and belongings as are usual in clubs and club houses." With the expansion of the Harvard Club's 44th Street headquarters, "such other appurtenances" now include international rules squash courts and, of more interest to Slice, a pizza oven. The New York Times reports: The 1894 clubhouse, which had major... More
