Where's the Best Pizza Near the Empire State Building?

Slices near the ESB. [Photographs: Always Hungry] The blog Always Hungry New York goes eatin' slices around the Empire State Building in this post of six pizzerias near the landmark. This area is shit for pizza, but if you're stranded in the area or are touristing and don't want to hike out to a better pizza neighborhood, AHNY recommends Little Italy (Fifth Avenue and 33rd Street) and Squisito (34th Street, between Madison and Park avenues). If you're craving more than a quick slice and have some time, I'd recommend walking a little farther west and hitting up Lazzara's at... More

'Kick-Ass' Artichoke Slice at Newly Opened Previti in Midtown

Zach Brooks of Midtown Lunch reports on the artichoke square slice at Previti: "Their artichoke pizza comes topped with a truffled spinach and cream sauce thing that they make in house every day. It also has real artichoke hearts (bonus!) unlike Artichoke in the East Village. It's basically the best of both worlds. You can get it as a regular slice, or as a square slice." Previti Pizza: 122 East 41st Street, New York NY 10168 (Lex/Park; map); 212-557-4992; previtipizza.com... More

Pizza at the Bon Appétit Pop-up Supper Club & Cafe

[Photograph: Carey Jones/SENY] From Serious Eats New York: There are rotating specials, and today's was from the winner of the Gourmet Pizza Classic, a "Heavenly White Porcini Pizza" ($8) made by Lisa Kielas. Though Adam gave the toppings his seal of approval—Porcini mushrooms, with garlic, Fontina, and Parmesan—the crust was pale and a bit bready. Not worth it when there's other awesome stuff there, like the José Andrés–conceived J(amon)LT. Saag Paneer Pizza? Why Not?

[Credit: Midtown Lunch] Saag paneer is spinach and cheese, right? So why not make a saag paneer pizza? Midtown Lunch posted yesterday about the unusual pies at Bombay Eats on West 52nd Street. Right now, the Indian-food-topped pizza is sold whole-pie-only. The proprietor there told MTL's Zach Brooks that he didn't think there was enough demand to sell these pizzas by the slice. Zach badgered the owner enough that he made a slice topped with saag paneer from the buffet. He says: I still think he’d make a killing offering Indian pizza by the slice. Maybe if enough people... Openings: Golosi, Midtown Near Grand Central

Urban Daddy: "Run by a young Sicilian pizza wunderkind named Francisco, you'll want to pop in to Golosi (glutton in Italian) when you're looking for a manageable treat—three inches should do—of a crispy (the flour is imported from Italy, and the dough is made with olive oil) skateboard-shaped pie." Golosi: 125 Park Avenue, New York NY 10017 (b/n 41st and 42nd; map); 212-922-1169... More

Dear Slice: Aperitivo in Midtown

Clicking in to the Slice inbox today, we've got some intel on Aperitivo in Midtown from Dustin, who checked in in early October with some dirt on Flatbread Co. in Maine. Enjoy. --The Mgmt. Ahoy Adam! Hope all has been well with you these days. Big downer about Co., right? Well at least for those of us who have yet to try it anyway :) Aperitivo 780 Third Avenue, New York NY 10017 (b/n 48th and 49th street; map); 212-758-9402 Anyhoo, since I first read about Aperitivo (the new brick-oven spot in Midtown) on Eater about 2 weeks ago, I... Dear Slice: Good Delivery Pizza for Office at 26th and 11th Avenue?

Clicking in to the Slice inbox today, we've got ... I want to get pizza for lunch for Jaime B.'s going-away party. Is Waldy's any good? How many people can I feed w/one of his large pies? (Any guesses? I know I can call and ask.) What about Pizza Suprema--how many can I feed with one of their larges? I still have horrible memories of my attempt to treat Adam w/pizza from Lazzara's on his bday at Blueprint, and not having nearly enough food. Is there anyone else you'd suggest? (Am I too far away from Lazzara's to ask them... More

99-Cent Fresh Pizza Line

Midtown Lunch Check out the line at 99¢ Fresh Pizza. Zach Brooks of Midtown Lunch (and Serious Eats New York editor) captured this scene last Wednesday. That line's on par with Di Fara, though I doubt the place is as good. 99¢ Fresh Pizza 151 East 43rd Street, New York NY 10017 (b/n Third and Lexington avenues; map); 212-922-0257... More

Lunch: New York Pizza Suprema

New York Pizza Suprema calls this an "upside down pizza," but it's essentially a Sicilian slice that goes crust, cheese, sauce instead of crust, sauce, cheese. We had it for lunch today at Slice–Serious Eats HQ.... More
