From Serious Eats Talk: 'Is Motorino Really That Good?'

A Margherita pizza from the East Village Motorino. [Photograph: Philip Given] On Slice parent site Serious Eats, sushiburger says: ... Then we went to Motorino on 12th Street. After hearing all the rave on SE/Slice (for the one in Brooklyn) I decided to try it. We ordered the Margherita. Since we had already eaten a pork bun and half a sandwich, we ordered just one pie (plus, it was like 5 p.m. so no one was there), but the guy working there gave us a weird look and said in the back, "They just want one... no, that's it......

Motorino's Mathieu Palombino on 'Gothamist'

From an interview with Motorino's Mathieu Palombino on Gothamist: Are you worried about becoming too popular? On Thursday night there was a pretty long wait for Motorino hopefuls. The way we did Motorino in the city is that we have a much smaller appetizer section, a much smaller pizza section. Because I was very well aware that we had too little seats, and Manhattan is a big city. And there were a lot of people interested. We can turn tables quite fast without cutting into the simple experience that Motorino is supposed to deliver. Meaning you can have your appetizer,...

The Manhattan Motorino: Is It as Good as the Brooklyn Location?

A pizza from the East Village Motorino. [Photograph: Philip Given] Motorino Manhattan opened last week Monday. I went on opening day to see how's tricks. Things seemed pretty under control there, and the pizza seemed up to snuff vis-à-vis the original Brooklyn location (that is to say excellent), so there didn't seem to be much to blog about. Plus--and this is probably the real reason--I didn't get any great photos. Shit light at 8:30 p.m., you know? But when FoS Philip Given emailed me these pix, I had to share them with you. And, hell, why not share my...

Friends and Family Night at Motorino Manhattan

[Photograph: Paulie Gee] A couple of serious eaters were lucky enough to be invited to dinner at Motorino Manhattan on Saturday, and anybody worried that Mathieu Palombino was not going to be a worthy successor to Anthony Mangieri can rest easy. The pizza was pretty damn good, light and crisp and lightly charred on the outside and tender and cooked though on the inside, even though Palombino said he is still getting acclimated to Mangieri's custom built-in-Italy oven. More than anything else, Palombino's comments told me that he has the necessary obsessive perfectionist gene that Mr. Mangieri has. Serious...
