Pizza Plus PlayStation

Pizza and video games seem to go hand in hand. Think Showbiz Pizza and Chuck E. Cheese. Think of all the times on The O.C. when the guys do some male bonding over pizza and PlayStation ("The Secret" and "The Ex-Factor" come to mind). Well, now you can order pizza from inside a video game: You're in luck - pizza is just a few key strokes away! While playing EverQuest II just type /pizza and a web browser will launch the online ordering section of pizzahut.com. Fill in your info and just kick back until fresh pizza is delivered... More

That's (Media-Manufactured) Amore!

Pizza played a part in a big group date on The Bachelorette last night. The less we say about it, the better. Though we should probably tell you the name of the restaurant: Little Italy's Puglia (189 Hester Street). Enjoy the eye (aye!) candy below. — photographs from ABC.com [Thanks to JJJ for alerting us, as we would never have seen this otherwise.]... More

Annette Bening And The Golden Globe Pizza Reference

"What the heck did Annette Bening mean by 'lunch at the pizza joint was delicious'?" You knew Slice would have the answer for you. The cryptic remark Ms. Bening made to husband Warren Beatty during her Golden Globe acceptance speech moments ago (the awards show is unfolding as we publish this), was a reference to the couple's first meeting. Apparently, the celebrated Hollywood duo counts a pizza lunch as their first date of sorts. (Ms. Bening won for Best Actress in a Film Comedy for Being Julia.) We at Slice weren't watching the awards when Ms. Bening made the... More

From The Hut To The Office

I came a little late to The Office party, catching this phenomenal British fake documentary in its second season. With its perfectly cast characters, led by the smarmy, creepy, skeevy, needy, and clueless David Brent (played masterfully by Ricky Gervais, above, at right), and its ability to mine humor from uncomfortable situations, The Office quickly made it to the top of my best-of-TV list. Almost as creepy as David Brent is the character of Gareth Keenan (played by Mackenzie Crook, above, at left), a survivalist military nut and member of the Territorial Army (equivalent to the U.S.'s National Guard,... Made To Order, Built To Last

The last time Slice was at Di Fara, our eagle-eyed metro editor, Seltzerboy, noticed the shop's crew writing orders on a nifty new notepad (above). On previous visits throughout the years, we had observed proprietor Dom DeMarco simply jotting down orders on whatever was at hand—often a paper plate or the take-out box a pie was destined to inhabit on its journey home. At one point during this visit, Dom's daughter left the pad unattended while she was in back. We saw our chance and moved in, enticed by the words "DiFara's Freehand Recipe." Would we be able to... A Hip Hop You Don't Stop: Pizza And The Explosion Of Rap

Buy The Best of the Sugarhill Gang, featuring "Rapper's Delight" The Sugar Hill Records Story, CD box set from Rhino Records Given pizza's popularity as a cuisine, it's not surprising that it has either played a major role in world events (think Bill Clinton meeting Monica Lewinsky) or that it often turns up—in ways that are sometimes surprising—in a pop-culture context. The role that pizza played in the advent of hip-hop... More

Rock 'N' Roll Pie School

No Pizza for You, Joey: Joey Ramone, whose birthday was yesterday, in a video capture from the movie Rock 'N' Roll High School. To the right of Joey's head, you can make out the stack of pizza boxes that the rest of the band is tearing into. The band's manager only lets Joey eat health food. Yesterday, May 19, was Joey Ramone's birthday. Although the frontman of legendary punk rock band The Ramones died in April 2001 of lymphatic cancer, his friends and family have continued to throw the annual bash that had been his tradition. To honor Joey... More
