At last, My Pie Monday! There are some freakin' incredible looking pies this week. There's lots of evidence of Slice'rs helping Slice'rs via past inspiration, advice, and collaboration. Dmcavanagh, Jimmyg, and Norma427 put their heads together on some dough experiments and the results appear here. Adam took some tips from TXCraig1, who also was the source of topping inspiration for Atmast (who, by the way, is soliciting some pizza stone advice.) Imwalkin represents with the Aleppo, which I'm sure fellow addict Dhorst would greet with a big thumbs up. She and newcomer Mitch Birrittella sent in pics of some drool-worthy grilled pies. Scott D's Margherita being pulled from his newly finished wood fired oven is sure to induce some Slice'r envy. And just look at how beautiful JEL's squash blossom pie is. Amusebouche1 makes a eye-catching pie with zucchini and cured meats, and hogletboglet makes a damn good case for how crave-worthy a simple pepperoni pie can be. After all the fried pie talk last week, it's great to see Thezaman's montanara. And last, but not least, livrefreeorpie works a very near and dear regional ingredient onto his pie.
If you're looking to work up an appetite for Thanksgiving, then this My Pie Monday should do the trick. Billgraney took the barbecue sauce plunge with his first ever chicken bbq pizza, Amusebouche1 created a clam bake pie combining clams, corn, and bacon, and Tscarborough topped his thin crust pie off with lump crabmeat, scallions, pepper, and mushrooms. Along the more traditional track Norma created a classic New York-style pie, TXCraig1 fired a Margherita with sausage, and Scott D made a modified his Margherita with tomato and garlic, cooking it in just 70 seconds. That has to be some kind of record, right?
There are some killer My Pie Monday pizzas this week, gang. Norma427 used her pal Steve's WFO to artfully emulate TXCraig1's Neapolitan pizzas, and you can see by the cheese Neapolitan from the man himself just why they merit emulation. Speaking of emulation, Olsonmatt created a New York classic in the style of John's or Grimaldis'. Billgraney experimented with King Arthur's Sir Lancelot flour, and MichaelinHouston met with great success using Kenji's hacker-free Neapolitan recipe. Dhorst created a pair of sourdough pies, amusebouche1 went the Mediterranean topping route, and Scott D has a vegetarian creation that he fried off in 70 seconds. Among all these first class round pies, Jimmyg represents with a standout square inspired by the Umberto's pies Adam reviewed.
Happy Labor Day, Slice'rs! What a great My Pie Monday to sit back and enjoy the hard work of your fellow pie enthusiasts. Incorporating the fruits of their gardening labor, jimmyg tops his pie with lots of garden tomatoes and livefreeorpie uses homegrown marinated zucchinis and roasted red peppers. We've got donut peaches and goat cheese on a pie from amusebouche1, a fig and prosciutto pie from TXCraig1, and a mock Jet's pizza from Norma427. Dmacavanagh is also back in the pie-making swing of things with a New York style pizza with extra cheese. Plus, we have a quartet of Margheritas, each unique, from Scott D, olsonmatt, ourpunkkoala, climbhighak.
It's another gorgeous My Pie Monday here at Slice! Seriously. Every one of these pies looks freakin' awesome. West Coast pizzerias like Una Pizza Napoletana and L.A.'s Akasha served as the inspiration behind Scott D's Filetti and Amusebouche1's squash topped pie. Codfish30 and Forzapizza each created exemplars of the classic Margherita. Jamesws had a rendezvous with his in-laws pizza oven and has a killer arugula topped pie to show for it. Continuing her exploration in Greek territory, Norma427 experimented with low hydration pies and gives a glimpse here. And jimmyg and TXCraig1 have two extraordinary looking mushroom topped pies.
Happy My Pie Monday! There are pies to be inspired by in this week's line up. If your interest has been piqued regarding Greeks, Norma's pie will make a convincing case. Or maybe like amusebouche1 you'll find inspiration from high falutin sandwiches, or try replicating a renowned pie, in the steps of Climbhighak. But then the season's bounty seems like inspiration enough based on Paul T's yellow tomato sauce Margherita, the Swiss chard and onion pie from Jimmyg, Tim Kuhn's pesto and tomato pizza, and the arugula topped pie from Scott D. If bold toppings are your thing, take a page from dhorst's recipe book or that of ToteM'Gotes!
This week's installment of My Pie Monday is here and there are some fantastic looking pies! Norma got into the spirit of last week's Greek pizza posts (here and here) with a Greek pie of her own. First Crush (from over at pizzmaking.com) sent in a first time submission that demonstrates some real wood fired oven mastery. Sure hope we get to see more of those! And Scott D has a Margherita to show for that second ever firing in his own outdoor fire breather. SlideSF shows off what a superb looking Neapolitan pizza the Little Black Egg can produce. Rounding out all this pizza baking variety, srj1970 has a whole table full of little lovelies cooked on a cast-iron pan. But no MPM is complete without some pizza innovation, which Jimmyg definitely delivers with his pizza capped cheeseburger!
Yay, My Pie Monday! The grills are out in full force this time around. There's a first grilling attempt, with good looking results from dailywaffle, Amusebouche1 goes mainstream with a grilled Margherita, and Norma427 takes her market pizza recipe for a bbq outing. In the sophomore firing of his wood-fired oven, Scott D creates a South American Fugazza Pizza. Jamesws combines goat cheese, and balsamic onions for a savory take on cherry pie. And atmast brings cauliflower, bacon, and manchego together atop a crust made with a Tartine starter.
The dozen entries for this week's gallery are split 50/50 between pies with tomato sauce and those without. Ricotta, creme fraiche, potatoes, Alfredo sauce, and roasted garlic paste are a few of the white varieties in the line-up. In the white corner we have Amusebouche1, olsonmatt, Norma427, Scott D, ACBova, and Dhorst. On the red team, CompletelyPizza, C.Mac, flavacrisp, jimmyg, unpocojmoney, and billgraney. Wow. This week's batch of My Pie Monday entries is full of traditionally awesome and awesomely nontraditional pizzas. Arugula seems to be on the brain — maybe it's a way to wish spring into being — and we see it on Alberto's, Scott D.'s, and BillCBP's pies. Some great mushroom pizzas in the bunch too, which brings to mind foraging in the woods, which is what I think Jamesws did for the fungi on his pie. And then there's Norma with deep-fried pizza and Girl Loves Pizza with a chimichanga pie. This week, Slice'rs cooked some awesome-looking pizza...on some crazy-looking ovens. First up: Crayfish experiments with cooking pizza in a pottery kiln. Then we've got BiereBeer with a bacon-and-Brussels-sprouts pie cooked in an old wood-fired oven. (Bonus oven shot included.) And Ronzo is using a homemade Little Black Egg pizza oven.
