That's That: Una Pizza Napoletana Is But a Memory as Mangieri Packs It in for SF
Manhattan Branch of Motorino Will Indeed Open in Its Place You won't have Anthony Mangieri to kick around anymore—at least not in New York City. The New York Times's Diner's Journal blog confirms the closing and sale to Motorino's Mathieu Palombino: "I want to make a change, man,” [Mangieri] said. “I’m almost 40. I’ve lived my life between New Jersey and this neighborhood. If I don’t do this now, then when?”“I’m excited,” he added, “but I’m scared.”He said he was also attracted by the California produce. Asked if that meant he might one day expand on the spartan lineup of...Closing (But Possibly Reopening): Isabella's Oven
Eater Isabella's Oven, which started out amazing but then went to merely good with the loss of its original pizzaiolo, is "closed until further notice" while the owners search for a new location. The sign posted in the window there projects a spring 2009 reopening date. Eater has some more details. Related Isabella's Oven: One Great Pizza on a Saturday Night Isabella's Oven: Going Downhill? Saturday is the last day, and after that, the owner may try to move the location farther east....Two Boots Rock Center Closing; Two Boots Hell's Kitchen Imminent
The Two Boots location in Rockefeller Center (in the weird mall-like area belowground) is closing. But when a door closes, a (pizza) window opens. The mini chain will open a branch at Ninth Avenue and 45th Street. So sayeth Midtown Lunch....Closings: Joe & Joe in Kensington, Brooklyn

Dear Slice, Walked by last night and noticed the corner shop is all boarded up. It seems that Abitino's is no more. Marc M. Well, supposedly it's under renovation, but with the awnings and signage removed, looks like this branch of Abitino's is closed. Pizza fans will remember that the corner location used to house Joe's before it relocated to the middle of the same block....John's Pizzeria Closed by Dept. of Health
John's Pizzeria Closed by Dept. of Health, blogged to Slice from the Flickr photostream of Slice Well, it looks like Yum! Brands is not only responsible for the reprehensible pies belched out by Pizza Hut but also indirectly for the March 1 temporary shuttering of venerable Greenwich Village pizza joint John's, on Bleecker Street. (Yum is the corporate parent of both the Hut and Taco Bell, whose rat infestation of the nearby Village Bell location last week made nationwide news and grossed us all out.) It seems that due to the extensive media coverage of a certain fast food...Closings: Downtown Brooklyn's Nick and Joe's
Joe Carlone knows the last thing downtown Brooklyn needs is another bank. But after 35 years serving up pizzas seven days a week at Nick and Joe's Pizzeria on Court St., Carlone has decided to throw in his red-sauce-stained towel and rent his space to a Chase branch. "I hear that all day long, that people don't want another bank," said Carlone, 52, who started working full time at his father's pizza place straight out of high school. "But nothing lasts forever. It was time." Carlone, who closed the place April 8, owns the building his pizzeria occupied, and he...Slice is part of the Foodblog Ad Network.
