It's My Pie Monday time, Slicer's! There's a great variety of pies in this week's line-up. Toppings are definitely a MPM stronghold, and this week is no exception. Bierebeer represents with a lobster, garlic, and scallion combo, Jamesws combines baby kale and grapes, onepercent99 uses some aware-winning pulled pork, and Hogletboglet finds a new favorite in the Asian-Moroccan flatbread. Of the season, there's an asparagus and prosciutto pie from jimmyg, TXCraig1's asparagus "Bird's Nest" a la Jim Lahey, an earthy leek and mushroom pizza from redwgn67, and, of course, RAMPS! from dhorst. There's an Adam Kuban related shout out in there, but that's not the only one. In response to last week's Home Slice, Imwalkin sent in a Memorial Meatball Pizza. Ev has the ol wood-fired oven turning out good old fashioned NY-style pepperoni pies, Norma is still tweaking her Sicilian pizza for the market, and Npinto has been busy baking focaccia and pizza. Amusebouche1's been working on Tomato Pie, but not the kind you'd find in Jersey. And last but not least, a big My Pie Monday welcome to SaucedTO, who used a combo BBQ/broiler method.
This My Pie Monday brought Slice'rs out of the woodwork! Not only has Adam Kuban, the creator of all things Slice, joined the folds, but this round also includes Slice heavyweight Pizzablogger, and the return of Ev. Always great to have you guys. And there's been a whole lot of pizza making going on. This week we are seventeen strong! Among the longtime regular MPMers we have jimmyg, amusebouche1, Norma427, Imwalkin, dmacavanagh, and dhorst. Representing the newer regulars are RobynB, Redwgn67, and Steve Viterali. There's always room for more pie makers around here, so we're happy to welcome npinto, brando, and ccleon. Enough with the introductions, let's get to those fantastic looking pies!
It's another gorgeous My Pie Monday here at Slice! This week Norma427 revisited the Mellow Mushroom recipe she had previously worked on with some delicious looking results. Billgraney un-mellowed his mushrooms by sauteing them in duck fat (omg) before topping his pie. Livefreeorpie got all pepped up with pepperoni, banana peppers, and roasted reds. But wait, there is another tri-pep variety to be found in Ev's tri-colored bell pepper and onion NY pizza. Olsonmatt made a marinara with garlic, oregano, and fried sage. (You should really already be clicking through the slideshow at this point, but if you need more cause...) TXCraig1 tried his very proficient hand at the Chris Bianco Rosa, Texas-style! (A Texan would never use Arizona nuts.) And in the spirit of Slice'rs collaborating with Slice'rs, Jimmyg tooled around with his dough holding temps this week after some productive MPM discussions on the topic. Keep up the great conversations, everyone!
Welcome back to My Pie Monday! We've got more impressive pies this week. I'm pretty sure that some of the maestros behind these pies are about to go pro. Consider this a chance to check out their "early work". Contributing this week are: amusebouche1, dmacavanagh, Ev, intheyearofthepig, jimmyg, Norma427, Pam Egan, TXCraig1, and Zach. Instead of telling you all about their work, I'll let the pies do the talking.
Happy My Pie Monday, Slice'rs. We entered fall over the weekend, and if this round of pies is any indication of what autumnal toppings mean to you, this is about to become my new favorite pizza topping season. This is what I mean: Billgraney topped his pie with duck confit and creme fraiche; Olsonmatt piled on some pulled pork; and Amusebouche1 combined the many delicious flavors of the Iberian Peninsula onto his pizza. And how about the hot dog, pickles, and onions on dellavecchia's pie?! In the words of Tupper Cooks!, "I'd do it!" That goes just as well for the improvisational stylings of jimmyg's "pizza fail" and Tscarborough's refrigerator door (aka "pizza in a can") creation. And who wouldn't "do" TXCraig1's Margherita or a Mellow Mushroom replica á la Norma427? Even a non-pepper eater would be tempted by Ev's wood-fired pizza or dmcavanagh's Sicilian with sausage. Great looking pies all around!
Oh, My Pie Monday, you never come too soon! This week we have two first time submissions, from what looks like some pretty seasoned pizza-makers. Paralleli's pie shows off a spectrum of tomatoes paired with bacon, and the other newcomer, PizzaPartito, also works bacon into the equation along with some ground cherries and caramelized onions. Speaking of bacon, check out the bacon chutney! on TXCraig1's jalapeño jack pie. Oh and not to be left out, Jimmyg even slips some porky slabs onto his tiered-topping pizza bianca. In the non-bacon class, we have a Buffalo chicken alfredo pie from Ev that would make a even the anti-chicken pizza people say no to a slice. There's an envy-inducing Luigi's replica by Norma. Crayfish has a vibrant Green Zebra tomato topped Margherita and Amusebouche1 elegantly crowns his French-y pizza with an oeuf.
Happy My Pie Monday, everyone! We've got a great variety of pies in this week's lineup. Starting with the classics, Ev pulled off a masterful Margherita from his wood-fired oven and olsonmatt goes the Sicilian route. I went with a streamlined fennel sausage only pie, while jimmyg matched fresh sausage with roasted red peppers and onion. But no MPM would be complete without some topping creativity. Take WhatKatyAteNext's classic Indian combination on a naan crust in her Punjabi Pie. And we can always count on our man amusebouche1 to provide us with topping inspiration—this week's fig, goat cheese, and speck pizza is no exception. Speaking of inspiration, get a load of the Pizzicletta replication by TXCraig1! Norma delivers one of her beautiful preferment Lehmann pies, and dmacavanagh spices up his pizza with some buffalo chicken and pepper jack.
Welcome back to My Pie Monday, gang! We've got the meat and potatoes of pies this week. In the most literal sense, there's the Chicago-style bacon cheeseburger pizza from SlideSF and Ev's Sicilian pizza with scalloped potatoes, Vidalias, and cheddar. Mattsteig breaks out the big guns with a homemade mortadella (yum!) and scallion pie inspired by Chicago pizzeria Great Lakes. In the less literal sense, Jamesws harnesses pizza's essential elements with his tomato, herb, and Parmesan "flat bread". And Norma427, well, this pizza pioneer truly has no limits. She's going straight to the farm, gathering her own grain, and separating the wheat from the chaff! Get in there and check out this week's gallery. You might just find inspiration to make your own pie.
Happy Monday, Slice'rs! This week's gallery showcases some of the holiday weekend creations from your brethren in pizza. There's a classic Neapolitan with peppers and onions from Ev, a B.A.T. (that's bacon, arugula, and tomato) pie from amusebouche1, and a Mack's Pizza clone from Norma427. Alosha7777 gets closer to pie perfection, and Slice-inspired pies come from Kakugori, thanks to last week's Mi Famiglia review, and Jimmyg, after reading Scott Wiener's Sicilian pizza lesson. And, last but not least, we have a first time submission from my mom (cool name to follow).
There are some fine looking pies in the My Pie Monday gallery today. In the Margherita class we have a traditional rendition via Damian, a pepperoni topped pie from JeanB, and Ev takes his the Italian Sausage route. ESNY1077 has a mini skillet Sicilian in white, jamesws creates an allium trio with morels, Billgraney goes the bell pepper trio route, there's a veggie bbq pie from James S., shrimp and onions top Tscarborough's pie, and Amusebouche1 finds inspiration at Trader Joe's. Experimenting with an 11-day cold ferment yields some satisfying results for Norma427, and Jimmyg learns a thing or two about Pillsbury flour.
There is no shortage of inspiration in today's My Pie Monday. Norma427 experimented with Triple Berry Muffin mix, jamesschulman went the Lahey No-Knead route, jimmyg and Gregg took beer from pizza companion to crust's combining agent, and amusebouche1 united pizza, hoisin, and five-spice powder seasoned duck. Tscarborough's herbaceous proscuitto and cherry tomato pie evidenced home oven mastery, Ev made a white garlic alfredo, and T Alm created a vegan version of Kenji's NY style pizza. After seeing last week's Micucci's review radish was inspired to make the "Sicilian slab" her first MPM submission, and tell me it doesn't rival the original!
