Frank Pepe's Head-to-Head (Yonkers vs. New Haven)

Serious Eats–Slice overlord Ed Levine here has been on my case about getting to the new Frank Pepe's in Yonkers for a while now. He wanted to see how it stacked up to the original in New Haven, Connecticut. See, the Frank Pepe family has been on a small tear in the last few years, opening branches of the famed New Haven pizzeria throughout Connecticut—first in Fairfield, then Manchester, then at the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville. Then they opened one in Yonkers, New York. This was sort of a big deal in pizza circles, since there's a fair amount... More

8 Pizzas That Haunt My Dreams

Follow @slice on Twitter » Friend Slice on Facebook » A trio of pizzas from Sally's Apizza in New Haven, Connecticut. [Photograph: Adam Kuban] I've eaten a lot of pizza in the last year or so, but these eight pies from around the country continue to haunt my dreams. I'm not declaring these "the best," per se, just the top eight I keep thinking about and wanting more of. I could have easily reeled off eight more, but these were the pies on the front burner of my brain when I commenced this little exercise. Are they in any... More

Seattle: Tutta Bella, a Quick Photo Gallery

Click to view gallery » My second pizza stop in Seattle, after Serious Pie and some digestion time spent at the Space Needle, was the Tutta Bella on Westlake Avenue in the area known as South Lake Union. For fellow tourists, that's basically just a little north of—and a relatively easy walk from—Downtown, Belltown, and Pike Place Market. This Tutta Bella is part of a four-location VPN-certified mini empire; the original is in Seattle's Columbia City neighborhood. Co. Pizzeria Soft Opening Photo Gallery

"Our pizzas are not always round." Clockwise from top left: Co. opened with a soft launch this evening; there were actual people from the general public in the dining room. As FOS Kathryn Yu said, from the outside, it looks less like a pizzeria than a fancy Asian restaurant. One of the stars of the evening, the Ham and Cheese pie. (You can click all images bigger.) When I checked in late afternoon to find out if Co. really was opening on Friday, the gentleman in the dining room told me, "Yes—and tonight, too." It was a sort of soft... More
