Quick Profile on Jay Jerrier of Il Cane Rosso

[Photograph: canerosso.tumblr.com] Dallas-area pizzaiolo Jay Jerrier, co-owner of Dallas's Campania, gets some press for his mobile-pizza-oven operation, Il Cane Rosso on the Dallas Observer's food blog, City of Ate. You may already know Jerrier as canerosso here on Slice, so you won't be surprised that he's pretty damn opinionated about his preferred style of pizza—Neapolitan. [After the jump, where to find Il Cane Rosso.]... More

Paulie Gee Profiled in 'Pizza Oven Lifestyles' Piece

Photographs courtesy of Paulie Gee If you're a regular reader of Slice, Paulie Gee needs no introduction. For the rest of you heathens who drop by only occasionally, I'll spell it out. Paulie Gee is all over the comments here on Slice, responding with great tips on eating pizza in the NYC area and with sage advice on making pizza at home. GoodEater.org He knows what he's talking about. Man Keeps Pizza Oven Fired Up 24/7, 'Just In Case Friends Stop In'

By day, Julian Abramson is a chili pepper farmer about an hour north of Cape Town, South Africa. But whenever he wants, he can also be a pizza oven master since his backyard wooden oven—using wood from a non-native Australian tree—is heated 24/7. As a farmer, Abramson naturally has pots filled with herbs, tomatoes, and peppers for his pizza's homemade sauces and toppings. His favorite combo: bananas, green chili, and garlic. He makes the thin-crust pies "spontaneously all day whenever he, his family, or random neighbors are hungry." GoodEater.org contributor Joshua Levin visited Abramson in Tierfontein, South Africa. Levin... More

New York Times Talks to Dave Sclarow of Pizza Moto

New York Times OK. At first, all the stuff I've seen and heard about this Pizza Moto mobile pizza trailer at the Brookyln Flea? It all made me think "amateur hour." I mean, you look at the photo of that oven, and it looks more like a low-slung little heap of bricks than a serious wood-fired pizza oven. But this nice profile in the New York Times today reveals that the owner, Dave Sclarow, has some serious pizza cred behind him: "Mr. Sclarow, 34, learned his pizza craft at Franny’s, in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, and by backpacking through Italy."... Brooklyn Flea to Host Mobile Wood-Fired Pizza Oven

Brownstoner The Brooklyn Flea, the Sunday hipster flea market in Fort Greene, will be home to a new food vendor this weekend. The blog Brownstoner, whose proprietor helps run the market, reports that a chef named "Dave" has built a mobile wood-fired pizza oven and will debut it this weekend at one of the food stalls there. "Dave" built the brick oven on a small trailer not unlike the mobile pizza ovens I've seen online and IRL in other parts of the country. There's a fleet of them in the Pacific Northwest, an outfit upstate in Ithaca, and Ed... More

Using a Pizza Oven to Create Solar Cells

Photograph by Robyn Lee Though the process is still a long way from becoming mass-marketable, Australian PhD student Nicole Kuepper has come up with a way that may bring cheap solar cells to developing countries. Ms. Kuepper developed and patented the iJET solar cell which can be made cheaply at low temperatures using items such as an inkjet printer, nail polish and a pizza oven. The University of NSW student and lecturer hopes it will lead to green energy in developing nations, providing electricity to the world's two billion poorest people. Oregano Pizzeria, Importing a Pizza Oven from Italy to Massachusetts

Boston.com A story in the Boston Globe about Oregano Pizzeria & Ristorante in Newburyport, Mass., and all the rigamarole involved with importing its 5,400-pound pizza oven from Italy.
