Maiden Voyage for Fledgling New York Pizza Tour
Photograph from DrBaloney on Flickr My buddy Scott Wiener launched his pizza tour venture yesterday with a trip to Lombardi's, Louie & Ernie's, and Patricia's. From the New York Daily News: Pizza lovers with $55 to spare can tool around in a school bus on the first citywide pizza tour, which will hit premier pizzerias on a rotating basis.Wiener is hoping to feature up-and-coming joints — like Luzzo's in the East Village, yesterday's second stop — as well as established favorites."They may not have the track record of Lombardi's or John's, but their pizza is still on the same...Scott's New York Pizza Tours Launches
Remember that new New York City pizza tour service I told you about early last month? The one that my buddy Scott Wiener is putting together? At that point the tour was but a twinkle of olive oil in Scott's eye. Now his New York pizza tour site has launched and is selling tix. Bus trips are $55, start in Manhattan and go to at least one outer borough and back in four and a half hours. Walking tours are by request only and hit places in downtown Manhattan only. The first trip is April 27; subsequent tours are on...New NYC Pizza Tour Service Starting
Speaking of pizza tours (previous post), the guy behind the tour that landed outrageously on Franny's has turned what was originally an annual birthday event into a fledgling business: Scott's Pizza Tours. The tours aren't up and running yet, but you can sign up for Scott Wiener's cheesy trips at his website, which mentions a spring launch date. Eater.com The restaurant blog Eater has a great series called "The Gatekeepers," in which they interview the host or hosts at a given venue. Today they talk to Sarah Gaskins and Nekisia Davis of Franny's: What's the most outrageous request from a customer you've had to accommodate? SG: We once sat 25 people who were on a New York pizza tour. They showed up in a school bus with a mega-phone. After ordering eight pizzas and taking over the whole restaurant, they moved on to the next stop. Hmm ... I wonder what pizza tour they're talking about?...Menu for Hope 4 Pizza Tour Winner
Remember Menu for Hope 4 from all the way back in early to mid December? It's the annual charity raffle organized by Pim Techamuanvivit (Chez Pim). Yeah. That one. So thanks to everyone who bought a ticket to win Slice's Guided Pizza Tour for 4. Good news: We have a winner! CHARLES DAVIS, you and 3 of your cohorts are in for a pizza-trippin', face-gorgin', crusty, cheesy, saucy experience. Get in touch, yo. Here's a taste...A Saturday Pizza Tour
From left: A Di Fara half-plain, half-artichoke pie; pizza-makers at Franny's; an Isabella's Oven Margherita D.O.C.; Una Pizza Napoletana's marinara pie. Last year around this time Slice/Serious Eats contributed to Pim Techamuanvivit's Menu for Hope charity raffle. Our giveaway was a guided pizza tour for four. Well, the winnersAnthony Kinik and Michelle Marek of Montreal food blog An Endless Banquetfinally made us make good on our prize.
