Some pies get all the breaks. Case in point: Name all the coal-oven pizzerias in New York City ...
Your list surely includes Lombardi's, (the East Harlem) Patsy's, John's, Totonno's, and Grimaldi's. But what about Sac's?
Yes, Sac's. In Astoria. Never heard of it? We hadn't, eithernot until a couple months ago. Which is odd, because a coal-fired oven is the holy grail of pizzadom in this town. So why is it that the legacy pizzerias get all the props while this Queens-based shop, located not more than two blocks off the busy Broadway stop on the N/W, doesn't get any?
We're curious, and you should be, too. That's why the next Slice Pizza Club will meet at Sac's at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15. Be there, yo!
While Sac's (short for Sacramone, the name of the founding family) might be news to you, we're sure you've heard of the Bohemian Beer Garden. But have you been? Here's your excuse to visit, because after we've had our fill of pizza, we're going to this chock-full-of-Czechs garden, where we'll be takin' it to the skully with some fine Bohemian brewskis.
Two great tastes, my friend, two great tastes.

BOHEMIAN BEER HALL
