UPDATE (2/11/2011): YES, Papa John's is making the heart-shape pizzas again this year.
And there it is. Papa John's is once again offering its heart-shaped Valentine's Day pizza. When Slice ordered it online earlier this afternoon it was part of a special: $14.99 for a one-topping, thin-crust heart-shaped pizza and a Cinnapie (prices may vary in your area). Note that the heart-shaped pizza is only available with PJ's thin crust.
Papa John's Heart-Shaped Valentine's Pizza with Pepperoni
I asked Robyn Lee here in the office what my one topping should be. "What most says 'Valentine's' to you, Robyn?"
"Uh, I don't know. Maybe whatever the person you're buying it for likes most?"
Although, really, guys, I'm going to give you some advice: It doesn't matter what you order on this pizza. Even if it is your girlfriend's favorite topping(s), she's not going to forgive you for calling in a delivery pizza for V-Day.
Conversely, though, this strategy might work like a charm for ladies trying to impress men, dudes, or boys. For that, pepperoni is probably a safe option. Plus, it makes the pizza look red. Which is like a heart. A big, giant greasy heart that's two ticks away from a coronary bypass.
Papa John's Cinnapie
As I said, this particular online deal came with a Cinnapie, which is one of Papa John's dessert pizzas. It's basically a big hunk of baked dough with cinnamon and icing on it. And you know what? It's pretty good. Bad good. But good. I wasn't even going to mention it, but Ed Levine tried a few bites of it and loved it. In a bad-food-is-good way. It's not too thin, not too thick, and it has just the right amount of icing on it. You're not going to get sugar goo all over yourself—maybe just enough that you'll have to lick your fingers clean.
But, yeah, even with the Cinnapie, fellas, this is still not appropriate V-Day fare.
