My Pie Monday: dhorst's Green Tomato Pizza
Glimpse pizzas made by fellow Slice'rs.

I just remembered that I took pics of a green tomato pizza I made a few weeks ago. It was an interesting experiment. The pizza had tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella, and on one half I used sliced green tomatoes. The other half had cornmeal-crusted fried green tomatoes that were added halfway through baking. It was finished with globe basil and Parm when it came out of the oven. I should have remembered that I prefer panko-coated fried green tomatoes—I'm sure I would have liked that better. The cornmeal had too much of a grittiness for my taste. The plain green tomato half was good. I think instead of tomato sauce, next time I'll top it off with some horseradish crème fraîche—my preferred dipping sauce for panko-fried green tomatoes.
Nice. You could call this the "Whistle Stop Cafe" pie. ;)
