Daily Slice: Schnuck's Wood Fired Pizza, St. Petersburg, Florida
A different slice profiled each day.
Daily Slice gives a quick snapshot each weekday of a different slice or pie that the folks at the Serious Eats empire have enjoyed lately.

Every Saturday from October through May in St. Petersburg, Florida, a wide range of vendors gather at the Saturday Morning Market. Among the farmers, artists and cooks is Chris Schnuck who's been manning a portable wood-burning oven at public events all over Florida's Gulf Coast for the last two and a half years.
The menu at Schnuck's Wood Fired Pizza is pretty straightforward. There are about a half dozen choices and the most elaborate of the bunch, which I tried, comes with roma tomatoes, garlic, spinach and feta, in addition to sauce and mozzarella. The fresh tomatoes, my first good ones of 2011, were great, but it was the crust that really stood out. The crisp and chewy crust was amped up thanks to small blisters that dotted the bottom and gave the whole pie a really nice extra crunch.
Schnuck takes much of the summer off because standing in front of an oven that runs over 700 degrees under a summer Florida sun is just a horrible way to live. But, if anyone is eager to check the place out before October, they can stop by the oven at the 4th of July Celebration in Gulfport.
