Connecticut is the buckle of the Northeastern pizza belt, which stretches from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts. More specifically, the New Haven style of pizza not only is one of the first uniquely American pizza styles, but it has been preserved by a cluster of family-run establishments which still in many cases use the original equipment, now almost a century old.
Naturally New Haven might be considered Connecticut's pizza capital, but the state has dozens of great pizzerias. Few other places in the country have as much great pizza per capita (PPC). These are the best eight pizzas in Connecticut that we have had to date.

Whittling down all the top pizzas in Connecticut that we've tasted to just eight was no easy task. Even some of the pizzerias that did make the final cut have multiple pies that could easily hold a spot on a pizza lover's 'best of' list. Out in Meriden, a 123-year-old coal oven has been firing apizza pies since 1938 at Little Rendezvous. The roadside pizza shack is a slice of Americana and a dying breed that merits a pit stop if your in the area. The citizens of Danbury have been well-served by the addition of the wood-fired pies at Stanziato's, proving that New Haven isn't the only style with strong representation in the state. Providing more evidence for that case are the Neapolitan pies at Tarry Lodge in Westport from the Batali/Bastianich group. And along the shoreline in Old Saybrook, Alforno offers worthy New Haven style pies outside of the pizza capital, just minutes off of I-95.
